Information about Naxos Naxos is the largest (428 km²) of the Cyclades, Greek islands located in the Aegean Sea. It is part of the Prefecture of the Cyclades which, together with the Dodecanese, is in turn part of the Periferiadell'Egeo Meridionale. Its largest city and capital is Chora which has 12,000 inhabitants. The most important villages are Filoti, Apiranthos, Tragea, Koronos, Sangri and Apollonas. Naxos is a well-known tourist destination with several easily accessible archaeological sites.
