Info on Fourni
The islands of Furni (Greek: Fournoi Korseon) are an archipelago of small Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, between the islands of Icaria, Samos and Patmos; Furni is also the name of the main island.
From an administrative point of view, the archipelago constitutes a municipality on the outskirts of the Northern Aegean (peripheral unit of Icaria) with 1,469 inhabitants at the 2001 census.
The only inhabited islands are Furni, Thimena and Ágios Minás.
and islands are only accessible by sea from the nearby islands of Icaria and Samos, with more weekly connections. Since 2008, the ferry that connects Samo to Piraeus makes a stopover in Furni. Communications are often interrupted in winter (generally from November to April) due to the adverse weather conditions, especially for the impetuous winds.
The main island of Furni has a population of 1 326 inhabitants (2001 census), equal to more than 90% of the population of the small archipelago. The islands of Agios Minas and Thimena are also inhabited.
